The Anterique BP1 is a Japanese ballpoint pen featuring a clear, transparent plastic housing with gold accents – designed in the reduced proportions of American writing instruments from the 1960s. Inside, an oil-based low-viscosity ink (Mach-Ball ink) works with an ultra-precisely manufactured 0.5-mm ball point that writes significantly more fluidly than classic ballpoint pastes. The grip section is light and slender in the hand, making even longer writing sessions possible without fatigue.

Key Features

  • Transparent plastic housing with gold accents: The see-through material reveals the ink level, so you can always see how much ink remains. The plastic feels cool and smooth, yet remains light enough to hold for hours.
  • Oil-based low-viscosity ink (Mach-Ball ink): The thin-flowing formula glides across paper with significantly less resistance than conventional ballpoint paste – the writing is even and clear, without smudging pauses or clumps.
  • Ultra-precise 0.5-mm ball point: The finely-turned ball releases ink in a controlled and economical manner, producing a very clean line on smooth, calendered paper. Line width and detail sharpness are more comparable to a fineliner than a classic ballpoint pen.
  • Integrated ink flow spring inside the refill: It regulates ink flow when pressure changes and prevents leaking – even in pockets or backpacks.
  • Push mechanism: The ballpoint pen is retractable, so the refill is reliably protected.

Use & Tips

  • On smooth, ink-resistant paper, the Mach-Ball refill reaches its full potential: the line appears brilliantly black and well-set, without sagging or pulling fibers.
  • For quick notes, daily journaling, and planner entries, the 0.5-mm line width is precise enough for small handwriting and tight grid squares.
  • The transparent shaft pairs particularly well with minimal accessories – it doesn't need a matching color on your desk because it visually adapts to any environment.
  • The refill is replaceable (Anterique R-BP1-Refill, sold separately): when the ink runs out, only the insert is replaced, the grip section remains.
  • If you carry the pen in a jacket pocket, you can use the push mechanism to retract the ball point and prevent ink marks on fabric.

For Ballpoint Pen Enthusiasts

Mach-Ball ink is an oil-based ink with significantly reduced viscosity compared to conventional ballpoint pastes. The precision-turned ball in the 0.5-mm head sits tight enough to prevent the thin ink from leaking – yet loose enough to enable nearly pressure-free writing. The result is a writing feel closer to a gel pen or oil-based 0.4-mm refill than a classic ballpoint pen. The ink is not document-permanent and is not suitable for materials that must be archive-safe. For everyday writing, quick sketches, and planner notes, however, it is a smooth, reliable choice.
