Kaweco Mini Converter foldable

The Kaweco Mini Converter Foldable is a piston converter in miniature format, specially designed for compact Kaweco pocket pens. The key detail: the piston rod can be folded in after filling – so the converter also fits in the particularly short barrel of the Kaweco Liliput. Transparent plastic housing, clear and light, with good visibility of the current ink level.

• Foldable piston rod: The hinge mechanism on the piston button reduces the length of the converter in the folded state by almost 20% – with the same filling capacity as the standard mini converter. Folded: 3.3 cm, unfolded: 4.2 cm.
• Compatibility: Fits all Kaweco Sport and Kaweco Liliput pens as well as other pens that use short international standard cartridges (short cartridge).
• Filling capacity 0.47 ml: Solid for a mini converter – with slowly flowing inks and fine nibs, the fill lasts noticeably longer than with a standard cartridge.
• Transparent reservoir: The clear chamber provides information about the remaining ink supply at all times – practical when using inks with strong shading or when switching between different colors.
• Piston filling: The converter is filled directly from the ink bottle – like a small syringe. Ink cartridges are eliminated, bottled ink of any kind can be used.

Application & Tips

• Filling the Liliput: Insert converter, unfold piston rod, dip nib into ink bottle, slowly pull up piston. Then fold the piston rod back in – only then can the cap be closed.
• Tight fit: The converter sits deliberately firmly in the barrel – this is not a malfunction, but intentional. Check before inserting that no cartridge is still in the barrel.
• Ink selection: Since 0.47 ml is consumed quickly, it is recommended to use inks that flow well and do not dry too quickly – highly water-repellent or iron gall inks can put strain on the fine piston seal ring in the long run.
• Color change: Draw up and empty the converter multiple times with water until the water remains clear. The transparent chamber reliably shows when flushing is complete.
• Multiple operation: If you operate multiple Kaweco pens, you can keep a second ink ready with a second converter – this saves time when refilling on the go.

The foldable piston rod solves a design problem of the short Kaweco platform: the Kaweco Liliput has a barrel that is too short for conventional mini converters – the piston button would protrude from the barrel and block the cap. The hinge on the piston rod allows you to lay the protruding part flat after filling so the cap closes again. The principle is simple, but requires some getting used to when filling: unfold the piston rod first, then fill, then fold back in – in this order. If you forget the step of folding in, you'll notice it at the latest when closing the cap.
