The Ystudio Classic Revolve Portable is a ballpoint pen crafted from solid brass and finished entirely in matte black lacquer. Its hexagonal body feels cool and substantial in the hand – 31 grams of brass that make an immediate impression whilst writing. Supplied with a loop and brass hook, the pen can be carried on a rucksack or around the neck. Founded in 2012 in Taiwan, Ystudio manufactures the writing instruments of the "Weight of Words" series in local workshops using brass and copper.

• Matte black lacquer over brass: The surface is coated with a fine black lacquer. Over time, this wears away at the edges and grip zones, revealing the warm, shimmering brass beneath – a controlled ageing process that makes every pen individual.
• Included sandpaper: The lacquer can be actively controlled: the included sandpaper allows you to deliberately expose areas and create your own patina pattern.
• Brass carrying mechanism: Loop and brass hook allow the pen to be carried on your body or bag – always within reach without taking up space in a pocket.
• Twist mechanism (Revolve): The refill is extended by twisting the upper section – a satisfying tactile mechanism that requires no button press and emphasises the character of the pen.
• 0.7 mm gel refill: The supplied refill writes in black gel at 0.7 mm width. Parker-compatible ballpoint refills also fit.
• Weight and balance: At 31 g, the pen feels noticeably heavier than plastic writing instruments. The weight is evenly distributed across the body, providing a calm, stable writing experience.

• Create patina actively: Use the included sandpaper to work specific areas – edges, grip zones, facet transitions. This creates an individual two-tone pattern of black and brass gold.
• Make use of the carrying system: The combination of loop and brass hook works on rucksack straps, notebook covers or as a necklace. The pen is always in use without needing a separate case.
• Refill compatibility: The supplied 0.7 mm gel refill (not archival) can be replaced with Parker-compatible ballpoint refills – such as oil-based refills for archival writing or fast-drying refills for left-handers.
• Paper: The substantial weight and consistent line work particularly well on smooth, calendered paper – the gel glides effortlessly and produces a precise, saturated line.
• Care: The lacquered surface requires no special maintenance. Areas where brass is exposed can be brightened with brass cleaner or simply allowed to age further.

The brass is worked at a thousand degrees and then finished with matte black lacquer. The six facets of the hexagonal body are not merely aesthetic – they prevent rolling and provide a defined grip. The black lacquer layer is intentionally not permanent: it is the initial state, designed to transform through use and, optionally, through active sanding into something uniquely yours. The exposed brass subsequently oxidises further and develops a warm, deep patina that varies from user to user.
