• Care: Open-pored, vegetable-tanned leather readily absorbs leather cream or colourless leather fat. Conditioning once or twice a year keeps the leather supple and slows drying at edges and seams.
• Actively shaping the patina: Mocha brown as a mid-tone develops a clearly visible, warm patina. To slow the process, store the case away from light; for even colouration, carry it with you daily and occasionally turn it in natural light.
• Dimensional tolerances and unique character: Since the leather comes from natural hides, grain pattern, colour tone and surface texture may vary from the image. This is not a defect but a sign of untreated full-grain leather character.

In pit-tanning, hides are immersed in tanning liquor made from plant extracts for weeks or months – a slower process than chrome-tanning that gives the leather a firmer fibre structure, a warmer feel and a pronounced ability to develop patina. The tannins react to light, skin contact and mechanical wear, which is particularly beautiful to observe in mocha brown: initially the edges and frequently touched areas darken first, then the colour gradually spreads across the entire surface. The suede lining is not merely decorative but functional: the roughened surface traps dirt particles and prevents ink or nib oil from migrating to the outer skin.
