Sonnenleder works exclusively with vegetable-tanned leather from southern German cowhides – a process using plant-based tanning agents from tree bark, roots and fruits, traditionally in tanning pits. After tanning, the leather is stretched, smoothed and air-dried; subsequently it is greased according to a traditional recipe. The result is leather that is not sealed: its open-pore surface breathes, develops an individual patina with use and becomes more resilient when fully aged. Each piece is unique due to its natural grain structure. The metal zip on the "Busch" is specially manufactured and polished in Germany – not a mass-produced off-the-shelf zip.
