Postalco Tool Box Black
The Postalco „Tool Box“ is a two-part writing case made from embossed cotton and vegetably tanned cowhide – handcrafted in Japan. When folded flat, it packs compactly; when opened, it unfolds to its full capacity. Two inner pockets made from pressed cotton fold open in the middle and hold pens or small tools. The result is a case that feels like a compact tool box principle – sturdy in use, flat in your bag.
Special Features
- Pressed Cotton: The fabric is made on the same machines that were previously used for tent cloth. Over time, the light thread structures become more prominent and the material becomes softer – without water-resistant coating to preserve the natural feel.
- Full-grain cowhide, aniline dyed: Aniline dyeing preserves the natural color variations of the leather; the surface remains uncoated, making it particularly soft and supple. With use and light exposure, the leather darkens, and small scratches and signs of wear develop into a patina that only natural leather can achieve.
- Snap closure: A soft, supple leather flap closes the case with a snap button – when folded together, it has the compactness of a long wallet.
- High capacity, flat transport: Up to 36 pencils fit inside, as well as scissors, rulers, and sticky notes – when empty, the case folds to approximately one centimeter thick.
- Handmade in Japan: The construction is craftsman-quality and requires the utmost care in processing.
Use & Tips
- As a writing and drawing case: Designed for writing instruments, but equally suitable for small work tools such as scissors and set squares. Fine-liners, fountain pens, mechanical pencils, and compasses lie organized side by side in the two pockets.
- Work on the go: The case brings everything needed for work or study while traveling. When opened, it stands stably on the table and provides direct access to all pens – no rummaging, no tipping.
- Leather care: Vegetably tanned full-grain leather is sensitive to moisture. For the black version, a colorless or black leather fat is suitable, which protects the natural surface without obscuring the patina.
- Breaking in the cotton: Cotton is a natural material – knots and irregularities in the fibers are part of the fabric's character and soften further with regular use.
- Combination with other Postalco products: If you want to keep different types of pens separate, you can combine the Tool Box with the smaller Postalco Snap Pen Case – same material, same leather, coordinated aesthetics.
For Craft Enthusiasts
Postalco uses vegetably tanned leather and aniline dyeing that penetrates the material completely. This brings out the natural grain of the leather, and signs of wear develop into a patina. The pressed cotton fabric is produced on the same machines as tent cloth and is designed to age beautifully over time – through gentle fading and softening. Both materials of the „Tool Box“ are therefore not designed to maintain a constant like-new condition, but rather to create an object that makes use visible while deepening its character.
