Postalco Three Pen Case Emerald Green
The “Three Pen Case” by Postalco is a pen case for two to three pens – focused on the essentials, without frills. The outer shell is made of Postalco's own “Crossgrain” leather in rich emerald green, the interior is completely lined with calf leather and pig leather. Handcrafted in Japan.
Features
- “Crossgrain” leather on the outside: The characteristic cross-line pattern is embossed into the leather surface. It gives the case a fine texture in the grip and has a practical side effect – small scratches that occur when carrying it become part of the pattern and are barely noticeable. The leather develops its own patina over time without appearing blotchy.
- Vegetable tanning with mimosa tannin: The leather is tanned without chromium compounds. This takes longer, but results in leather that ages more firmly, becomes deeper in color, and feels pleasantly temperature-regulated in direct hand contact – neither cold nor sticky.
- Calf leather and pig leather lining: The inside is completely lined with soft animal leather. Pens rest directly on a smooth, slightly suede-like surface – no scratching the lacquer, no roughing up sensitive fountain pen clips.
- Emerald green: A cool, deep green with a blue undertone – calm and clear in character, neither garish nor pale. In natural light, the color shows a subtle depth through the embossed pattern.
- Compact format: 17.5 × 5 cm – narrow enough for a jacket pocket, large enough for three standard-sized pens, including wider fountain pens.
- Handcrafted in Japan: Postalco works with Japanese craft workshops; the case is made in a manual small series, not on an assembly line.
Application & Tips
- For your daily desk selection: Two or three pens – a fountain pen with a broad nib for headings, a fine-liner for details, a pencil for sketches. The case forces you to make a conscious selection rather than taking all options.
- Sensitive fountain pens are well protected: The soft leather lining reliably protects polished grip sections and clip surfaces. Lacquered fountain pen bodies or acrylic resin designs rest without abrasion risk in the compartment.
- Breaking in: New Crossgrain leather is still quite stiff – after a few weeks of use it becomes more supple and fits more snugly around the pens. The case becomes more perfectly fitted over time.
- Care: Pure, colorless wax-based leather care product is sufficient. Heavily pigmented care creams can hide the Crossgrain pattern and dampen the characteristic play of the surface.
- As a travel case: The flat format can easily be slipped into a notebook back pocket or between two books in a backpack – the pens are protected without the case taking up much space.
For Leather Enthusiasts
The Crossgrain leather is vegetable tanned – with tannins from mimosa bark, a traditional process that dispenses with chromium salts and takes significantly longer than industrial tanning methods. Vegetable-tanned leather reacts more strongly to moisture and light and builds up an individually pronounced patina over months. The natural surface texture without synthetic top coating also means: moisture can seep in, so the case should be kept dry briefly in rain. The embossed cross-line pattern is not a print but a mechanical embossing into the full leather – it remains permanently preserved and counteracts the leather's natural tendency to show surface scratches visibly.
