The Postalco Mineral Key Holder in Red Jasper replaces the classic keyring with a solid brass rod and screw closure – and a hand-ground stone that reimagines how we carry keys every day. Red Jasper displays the deep, earthy red colouring characteristic of this stone, created by natural iron oxide inclusions in the rock: opaque, matte-silky, and uniquely patterned in each piece. Postalco developed the Mineral series in collaboration with traditional Japanese stone craftsmen – each stone is individually hand-ground and shaped, without colouring or chemical treatment.

Features

  • Keys in a line, not a ring: The solid brass rod holds all your keys in neat order alongside one another. The screw end releases easily, allowing you to add or remove keys – no bending force required, no scratched fingernails.
  • Hand-ground Red Jasper: Every stone is unique – grain, shade of red and surface texture vary naturally from piece to piece. The stone feels cool and smooth, with gentle weight that sits securely in your hand.
  • Untreated and uncoloured: The jasper is neither dyed nor chemically sealed. Its colour is millions of years old and remains stable – what you see is pure stone.
  • Solid brass: The rod and screw head are machined from solid brass, not cast. With daily use, a living patina develops – the metal lightens at contact points and darkens in protected areas.
  • Living ageing: Hand oils condition the stone surface over time – the red tone of the jasper deepens, the stone develops a warmer, subtly silky sheen. Two materials ageing together.
  • Handcrafted in Japan: Developed and produced in collaboration with Japanese stone craft workshops specialising in this type of work.

Use & Tips

  • Organise your keys: Position your most-used keys on the outer edges – you can find them in the dark by position alone, without searching through the entire bundle.
  • Maintain the screw closure: Hand-tighten occasionally – with daily use, the screw head may gradually loosen. Never use tools or apply excessive force, as this will damage the thread.
  • Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Red Jasper is robust enough for everyday use, but should not be exposed to water for prolonged periods.
  • Avoid impacts: Despite its hardness (Mohs 6.5–7), the stone can chip or develop sharp edges if dropped hard onto hard floors. Stop using if edges become damaged.
  • Limit direct sunlight: Avoid prolonged direct sunlight where possible to preserve the stone's colour over the long term.

For Material Enthusiasts

Red Jasper is a microcrystalline quartz-chalcedony aggregate whose red colouring is based exclusively on natural iron oxide inclusions. The opaque, non-translucent surface and the stone's conchoidal fracture make it particularly suited to precise hand-shaping – it responds uniformly to the grinding process and can be finished to a smooth, matte surface that feels fundamentally different from polished quartz or agate. At Mohs 6.5–7, the stone is hardwearing for everyday use, though it will very slightly scratch softer metal surfaces such as aluminium keys over time. The rod brass is solid and machine-cut – the thread connection sits at the end of the rod and receives the stone head as a screw closure, which simultaneously serves as grip, closure and design element.
