Postalco Mineral Key Holder Red Aventurine
The Postalco Mineral Key Holder in Red Aventurine combines a solid brass shaft with hand-worked natural stone – created in collaboration with traditional Japanese stone craftsmen. The stone is untreated and undyed: its deep, reddish-brown colour comes from natural haematite inclusions in the quartz, which simultaneously give the stone its characteristic glittering shimmer. No key ring – instead, a straight brass post onto which keys can be threaded and secured with a screw cap.
Features
- Red aventurine – undyed, untreated: The reddish-brown colour is mineral: haematite inclusions within the quartz structure create it, and these same inclusions produce the characteristic aventurescence effect – a subtle glimmer that shifts in the light as you change your viewing angle.
- Hand-ground individual stone: Each stone is individually ground and polished by Japanese stone craftsmen. Shape, patterning and surface texture vary from piece to piece – every key holder is a unique piece.
- Solid brass shaft: The post is crafted from solid brass, not coated. With use, the metal develops a warm natural lustre where it is touched – a natural patina that deepens the character of the object over time.
- Screw system instead of key ring: The screw cap at the end of the brass post allows keys to be threaded neatly in a line. No catching, no bending – keys can be positioned precisely and secured by turning the cap.
- Cool, smooth feel in hand: Polished aventurine feels cooler in the hand than metal and has a uniformly smooth, subtly matted surface. The weight of the brass gives the user a pleasant, compact tactile experience.
Use & Tips
- Organise your keys: Frequently used keys go on the outside positions – so you can feel them without looking. Less frequently used keys in the middle, the stone at the end as a natural stopper.
- Tighten the screw cap regularly: Over time, the cap may loosen slightly through daily use. A quick, manual tightening by hand – not with tools – keeps the threads intact.
- Care for the brass: The brass doesn't need polishing – the developing patina is part of the design. If you prefer the original shine, you can re-polish it with a soft cloth.
- Keep the stone dry: Aventurine is robust (Mohs hardness 6.5–7), but doesn't cope optimally with prolonged contact with moisture. Dry the key holder briefly after rain.
- As a pocket stone: The polished aventurine works – much like a classic worry stone – for brief, mindless holding in your hand. The cool, smooth feel is deliberately incorporated into the design.
For Material Enthusiasts
Red aventurine is a quartz variety whose colour is created exclusively by embedded haematite crystals – no dye, no treatment. The same haematite produces the aventurescence effect: microscopically small, platelet-shaped inclusions scatter incoming light and make the stone shimmer depending on the angle. Because each stone is hand-ground and the distribution of inclusions in the quartz varies naturally, no two pieces of red aventurine are identical in colour depth and shimmer intensity. The brass – ungalvanised, solid cast – develops an individually worn patina with daily use: glossy at contact points, darker at edges. This interplay of two materials that become more beautiful with use is the real concept behind the key holder.
