Traveler's Notebook Regular "025" MD creme
Refill 025 brings cream-colored MD paper to the Traveler's Notebook Regular – blank, without any lines or grid. MD paper was developed specifically by Designphil in the 1960s for fountain pen writing and remains the heart of the Traveler's Notebook refills to this day. The cream-colored variant differs from white MD paper through a warmer, more eye-friendly tone that harmonizes particularly well with blue-black and water-based ink nuances.
Special Features
- Fountain pen-optimized Japanese paper: MD paper shows neither feathering nor bleeding – ink stays sharp at the edges, even with broad writing nibs and wet inks. Both sides of a sheet are usable.
- Cream tone with light feedback: The surface feels slightly textured – not as smooth as heavily calendered paper, but with enough resistance for the nib to find purchase and create full, even lines. This tone makes ink shading appear particularly warm and changes the perceived color only minimally.
- Blank format: No lines, no grid, no dot grid – the full page is available for free writing, sketching, travel journal, or lettering.
- Saddle-stitched binding: The notebook is spine-stitched and lies completely flat in the middle – ideal for double-sided layouts and spreads.
- Modularly applicable: The refill is held in the Regular cover via the elastic band and can be combined with additional refills.
Application & Tips
- Fountain pens and water-based inks: MD paper dries slightly slower than heavily coated papers – those writing with a broad nib or wet inks should wait a moment or keep blotting paper ready. The drying time is offset by excellent ink presentation: shading comes through clearly, sheen shows subtly.
- Pencil and ballpoint pen: The slightly textured paper works equally well for pencil – graphite adheres pleasantly without slipping. Oil-based ballpoint refills and fine liners also write dry and precisely on MD paper.
- Travel journal and sketchbook: The blank format and handy size of 11 × 21 cm make the refill an ideal companion for travel sketches, handwritten notes, and free layouts – matching maps, tickets, and mementos of all kinds.
- Combining multiple refills: With a Connecting Band, multiple refills can be held in the Regular cover simultaneously – for example, a blank MD cream notebook for journaling and another for appointments or addresses.
- Ink documentation: Those testing inks or keeping an ink journal will find the cream-colored MD paper a reliable base: no bleeding, moderate ghosting that doesn't restrict writing on the back side.
For Paper Enthusiasts
MD paper is light enough for a slim, stackable notebook, yet heavy enough for two-sided writing with a fountain pen. The surface is not highly glossy-calendered, but deliberately given a fine texture: the nib glides without slipping, and the ink is not absorbed too quickly – the result is clean, high-contrast lines with visible shading. Flex nibs and wet inks come into their own on MD paper because the paper, despite its ink resistance, has enough absorbency to prevent railroading. The refill is manufactured in Japan – in the same tradition from which MD paper has originated since the 1960s.
