MD Product Notebook blank (A7)
The MD Notebook in A7 format puts the paper front and center: ivory-colored MD Paper with 80 g/m², smooth and designed so that fountain pen ink flows smoothly without smudging or bleeding through. The slim body – 105 × 74 × 10 mm – fits into any jacket pocket, and the thread stitching with muslin band spine lays the book completely flat. No grid, no lines: 176 blank pages, structured exactly as you need them.
Features
- MD Paper, 80 g/m², ivory-colored: The cream-colored surface is finely calendered – the writing nib glides across it with minimal resistance, without scratching. Ink colors appear rich and clear, shadings from broad and flex nibs are rendered with differentiation. The paper shows no bleeding and minimal ghosting with normal ink quantities.
- Thread stitching with 180° opening: The book lies completely flat even on the first and last pages. The signatures are thread-stitched and stabilized with a muslin band strip on the spine – this construction is more durable than adhesive binding and allows writing right up to the gutter.
- Blank ruling: No printed grid or line structures distract from writing or drawing. The double page functions as a continuous surface – for sketches, mind maps, calligraphy exercises, or free notation.
- Glassine cover: The semi-transparent glassine paper protects the notebook from dust and light moisture. It can be removed, and the bare notebook then shows its simple, unglazed MD Paper cover with exposed muslin band spine.
- Ribbon bookmark & index stickers: The colored ribbon bookmark marks the current page; the included index stickers allow quick labeling – practical when using multiple notebooks in parallel.
- Acid-free & recyclable: MD Paper is pH-neutral and acid-free – notes don't yellow, ink remains stable for years.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pens with fine to medium nibs: MD Paper performs best with water-soluble fountain pen inks – the ink flows smoothly with minimal smudging. Inks with strong shading properties develop particularly warm color tones on the ivory background.
- Sketching and drawing: The blank surface and 180° opening make the A7 format a compact sketch pad alternative. Fine fineliners, pencils, and watercolor pencils with minimal moisture work well; for highly aqueous watercolor, a test on the back pages is recommended.
- Pocket journaling: The format fits into a shirt breast pocket or wallet compartment. As a daily companion for brief notes, reminders, or mood sketches, it's barely noticeable due to its light weight.
- Calligraphy practice on the go: For Japanese characters, Copperplate exercises, or brush lettering with not overly wet brushes, the format works as a practice notebook for your pocket – the gutter is large enough for small letters, and the paper responds precisely to pressure variation.
- Combination with protective cover: The notebook fits into MD Notebook Covers (A7 size) made of PVC, paper, or leather – allowing easy replacement without changing the cover.
For Paper Enthusiasts
MD Paper originated in the 1960s and has been continuously refined according to the Kaizen principle ever since. The thread stitching follows a classic Japanese bookbinding principle: individual signatures of 16 pages each are bound with thread, then reinforced at the spine with muslin band – this creates the characteristic 180° opening without an adhesive hump at the gutter. The cover is intentionally uncoated and simple: there is no cardboard cover, no linen, no varnish – only MD Paper itself, which develops a light patina with regular use. The notebook is not archival quality; for archival purposes with pigment-based or archival inks, a separate test is recommended.
