TWSBI Fountain Pen Diamond 580 ALR Navy Blue

The TWSBI Diamond 580ALR Navy Blue is a piston filler with a transparent resin body and milled aluminium elements in matte navy blue. The grip section, piston rod and cap finial are made from solid, machine-finished aluminium – cool and firm in hand, with a noticeable weight that anchors the pen. The multifaceted diamond-faceted shape of the body gives the pen its name and ensures it stays on the desk rather than rolling away.

Application & Tips

• Maximum ink filling: Pump the piston up and down several times while the nib is completely submerged in the ink. Then hold the nib upward, wait a few seconds for air bubbles to rise from the ink chamber, and slowly pull back the piston – until ink becomes visible on the nib and feed. Dip once more and fill completely.
• Ink selection: The large reservoir and smooth piston action shine particularly with well-flowing, water-based inks. Shimmering, chromatic or highly shading-prone inks show their characteristics particularly clearly through the transparent body.
• Broad nib 1.1 mm: The broad nib creates noticeable stroke width differences with changes in stroke direction – suitable for Latin scripts such as italic or for decorative lettering. On smooth, calendered paper, stroke definition and ink distribution are most effective.
• Cleaning: The completely disassemblable design allows thorough rinsing under running water. The white substance on the piston is bearing grease – do not use silicone grease and do not remove it.
• Cap not to be posted: While it is possible to post the cap on the end of the grip section, it makes the pen very long and top-heavy – twisting the posted cap also activates the piston mechanism.

The nibs of the Diamond 580ALR are manufactured in Germany and follow Western size standards – this means they are broader compared to Japanese nibs of the same designation. The aluminium piston of the ALR variant differs from the standard 580AL version in its matte surface treatment and concentric ring engravings. The piston comes from the factory with bearing grease, which must not be removed or replaced with silicone grease during cleaning – the supplied silicone grease is intended exclusively for the screw threads and the remaining mechanism. Those wishing to disassemble the feed should proceed carefully: it is the most sensitive individual component in the system.
