The Kokuyo Harinacs Compact Alpha is a staple-free paper fastener that binds sheets together by punching and folding – without metal staples, without refills. The compact housing made from recycled polycarbonate fits neatly in your hand, and the stainless steel blade works with noticeably little effort. Developed and manufactured in Japan.

Features

  • Staple-free binding up to 5 sheets: The fastening principle punches an arrow shape into the paper and folds the flap through the resulting slot – no consumables, no reordering.
  • Viewing window for position control: The transparent PC window shows exactly where the binding point is before force is applied – ideal for clean corner fastening or side fastening.
  • Openable viewing window: The window can be opened so that paper dust and punch scraps can be quickly and completely removed after misfastenings.
  • Corner fastening marking: An embossed marking on the housing shows the precise starting point for classic corner fastening – no measuring, no guessing.
  • Strap loop: The integrated loop allows attachment to a lanyard or key strap, so the fastener remains within reach – on your school bag, pencil case, or workspace.
  • Housing made from R-PC (recycled polycarbonate): The material is dimensionally stable, lightweight, and pleasant to grip; lever and housing are made from the same material, with steel lever arm reinforcement for the necessary durability.

Application & Tips

  • Handouts and documents up to 5 sheets: Notepaper, receipts, short reports, or multi-page printouts can be quickly and securely fastened together – without staples catching on neighboring documents.
  • School and university: Since no metal is involved, there is no risk of injury from sharp staple ends. Documents can go directly into the paper bin or shredder without needing to remove fasteners first.
  • Paper type matters: The fold binding works reliably on standard 80 g/m² office paper. For thin paper (under 60 g/m²), thermal paper, or film material, test first with a scrap sheet – binding performance may be reduced.
  • Do not fasten the same spot twice: A second fastening operation at the identical position weakens the connection, as the paper is already punched there.
  • Two-point fastening for greater hold: To secure larger document packages, fasten at two points – for example at the corner and at the opposite edge.
  • Cleaning: The viewing window can be opened with your fingernail; a short puff of air or a dry brush reliably removes accumulated paper dust.

For Office and Desk Enthusiasts

The Compact Alpha mechanism works with an arrow blade geometry that coordinates the punch hole (5 × 6.5 mm) and the fold flap so precisely that the connection is difficult to undo – an advantage over simple punch folders where the flap can easily spring back. The housing (27 × 87 × 53 mm) is intentionally proportioned for one-handed operation: your thumb guides it, the remaining fingers support it, and pressure acts perpendicular to the lever. Thanks to the stainless steel blade, the cutting engagement remains constant even after many hundreds of fastenings, without requiring grinding operations or replacement parts.
