Kunisawa Notebook Find Flex Note Soft grey
The Kunisawa Find Note Soft is a slender Japanese notebook in 120 × 210 mm format – compact, yet seriously equipped with 192 pages. The flexible cover in suede-finish material can be rolled and bent without losing its shape, and feels pleasantly soft in your hand. Kunisawa was founded in 2017 by the Kawachiya printing house in Shimbashi, Tokyo – a company with around 150 years of history in printing technology. The series name follows the motto: "I do not seek, I find."
Features
- Foolscap paper, acid-free, 81.4 g/m²: The creamy-yellowish paper is extraordinarily smooth – inks flow cleanly without sinking in. Fountain pens glide effortlessly across the page; fine to medium nibs deliver sharp lines with excellent ink distribution.
- 5 mm grid: Light grey, discreet grid lines – prominent enough to align with, understated enough not to dominate. Equally ideal for structured notes, sketches, and tabular entries.
- Thread binding: The notebook lies completely flat on the table, even when fully opened. No creasing, no spring-back effect – fully usable right into the spine area.
- Flexible suede-finish cover: The cover can be rolled like a newspaper – no breaking, no deforming. The softly matte, gently textured surface in grey has a calm, professional appearance.
- Copper foil embossing: Name and logo are embossed in copper foil on the cover – a contrasting accent on the grey surface that works without colour.
- Silver-coloured ribbon bookmark: The silver-coloured ribbon bookmark reliably marks your current page – matching the notebook's understated colour scheme.
- Rounded outer edges: The cover corners are rounded – this prevents fraying and keeps the notebook looking neat after extended time in your bag.
- Acid-free paper: The paper won't yellow through chemical degradation. Notes, sketches, and ink entries remain stable long-term.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pen: The Foolscap paper is designed for ink. Fine and medium nibs perform reliably without fraying. With very wet stub nibs, a glance at the reverse is advisable – slight show-through is possible. Nibs with shading characteristics produce beautiful results on this paper.
- Gel pens and liquid ink pens: Function excellently on the smooth paper – fast, precise lines, no tearing.
- Pencil and mechanical pencil: The smooth surface takes pencil less readily than rough paper, but delivers fine, clear strokes – ideal for technical sketches on the grid.
- As a travel and work companion: The 120 × 210 mm format fits many inside pockets of jackets and bags. The flexible cover provides protection even under pressure in your bag. With 192 pages, the notebook is designed for several months of intensive use.
- Ink and acid-free paper: Those using iron gall inks or highly acidic document inks benefit from the acid-free paper – pages won't degrade from ink acidity.
- Grid usage: The 5 mm grid works well for two-column writing, small tables, timelines, or diagrams – without forcing a specific format.
For Paper Enthusiasts
The paper carries the internal name "Foolscap" at Kunisawa – a designation referring to a historical European paper grade, used at Kunisawa as a quality term for their specially selected, smooth Japanese writing paper. At 81.4 g/m², it's heavy enough to hold ink without unnecessary buildup. The watermarked paper contains an embedded quality mark that ensures the origin and consistency of each sheet. Thread binding – as opposed to adhesive binding – allows complete opening without material stress at the spine: especially with broad scripts, layouts spanning the spread, or tight grid use, this makes a real difference in daily use.
