Hobonichi Pen Case Small Drawer Pouch (Natal Design: Lucky Swallow)
The Hobonichi Small Drawer Pouch in the "Natal Design: Lucky Swallow" design is a handcrafted pencil case in a slim, wallet-like format featuring a cheerful swallow motif. The exterior displays the distinctive Lucky Swallow design by Natal Design, a Japanese label renowned for playful, colourful textile prints. When the zip is opened fully, the Hobonichi small pouch lies completely flat and immediately reveals all compartments – no rummaging, no searching. The thoughtfully organised compartment layout is inspired by real desk drawers: a fixed place for every tool.
Features
- Lay-flat opening: The zip runs across the entire width – when opened, the pouch lies completely flat and all compartments are visible at a glance.
- Three flat slip pockets on the left: Perfectly sized for business cards, loyalty cards, rulers, stencils or sticker sheets – no overlapping, no bending.
- Stretchy mesh pocket on the right: Accommodates pens, washi tape rolls, charging cables and other bulkier items; the elastic fabric gives way and springs back.
- Pen loop in the mesh pocket: An integrated rubber band securely holds a pen – fountain pen, fineliner or ballpoint – within easy reach.
- Back pocket: A spacious pocket on the reverse side for tickets, receipts or a quickly accessible pen.
- Wrist strap: The zip pull is designed as a loop and sits comfortably around the wrist.
- Handmade: Each piece is hand-sewn in Japan – minor variations in craftsmanship and fit are signs of artisanal production.
- Natal Design: Lucky Swallow: The swallow motif comes from the Japanese design label Natal Design and appears on both the front and back of the pouch.
Use & Tips
- As a pencil case: Slim fineliners, fountain pens or mechanical pencils sit securely in the mesh pocket; thicker markers or washi tape rolls also fit inside.
- At the desk: When opened and stood up, the pouch functions like an open drawer – all tools lie flat, nothing piles up.
- On the go: The slim format (approx. 20.8 × 11.7 × 2 cm) fits into any bag and most planner pouches; the pouch accompanies your Hobonichi planner without taking up extra space.
- As a travel organiser: Charging cables, headphones, memory cards and business cards find a fixed place in the pouch – the flat-open design makes quick sorting possible even in a hotel room.
- As a cosmetics pouch: The flat pockets accommodate lipstick, credit cards and small mirrors; the mesh pocket is ideal for concealer sticks or eyebrow pencils.
- Note: The Small Drawer Pouch is not designed to accommodate the Hobonichi Techo Weeks – the book will not fit inside.
For Planner and Stationery Enthusiasts
The Hobonichi Drawer Pouch was created through observation of real desk drawers across different professions – size, shape and compartment layout were developed together with users. The combination of three flat slip pockets (Smile Pockets, which are precisely sized for business cards) and a stretchy mesh pocket with integrated pen loop replicates this principle in pouch format. Natal Design is a Japanese textile and design label from Tokyo, known for vibrant, nature-inspired print motifs – the Lucky Swallow motif symbolises good fortune and homecoming in Japanese symbolism.
