Hobonichi Clear Cover Case - Yoshie Watanabe: Dotted Plaid (Weeks)
This clear cover for the Hobonichi Techo Weeks protects the notebook from dirt and scratches – whilst making a statement of its own. This design comes from a collaboration with art director Yoshie Watanabe: evenly spaced dots in white, green, blue and pink come together through their arrangement to form a check pattern, applied to the transparent surface using screen printing. The dots feel fresh and light, without overpowering the colour of the underlying Weeks cover – each cover colour creates a new combination.
Features
- Screen-printed dot pattern: Four colours – white, green, blue and pink – are positioned at regular intervals to create the optical illusion of a check pattern. The effect changes depending on the colour of the underlying cover.
- Transparent PVC material: The cover sits firmly and smoothly over the Weeks cover, keeping the colour and surface visible while protecting against everyday wear, dust and minor scratches.
- Side ribbon bookmark: An integrated side bookmark flap can be flipped out with your thumb – no threading, no losing it.
- Pen holder: The side pen holder accommodates pens up to 13.5 mm in diameter – that covers most standard ballpoints, fine-liners and slimmer fountain pens.
- Two card pockets: Card-sized inner pockets on front and back hold sticky notes, business cards, sticker sheets or photos.
- Storage space beneath the cover: Between the transparent cover and the notebook surface, you can tuck postcards, travel photos or other flat paper items – visible from outside, yet protected.
- Fit: Tailored specifically to the Weeks format. Also fits the Weeks Mega; the cover may feel snug at first but will relax after a few weeks of use.
Use & Tips
- Cover combinations: The dot pattern in the check-style design changes character depending on the base cover – over a dark Weeks cover it appears more contrasting, over light tones softer and more pastel.
- Inserting photos and cards: Slip a photo, ticket or postcard under the transparent cover – visible from outside and always in view when you open your planner.
- Pen holder tip: Slimmer fountain pens, fine-liners and ballpoints up to 13.5 mm in diameter sit securely. Very thick grip sections or pens with non-round cross-sections may be difficult to insert.
- Seasonal inserts: The card pockets work well for sticker sheets currently in use – so your active set is always within reach in the planner.
- Not suitable for: Weeks editions with thick PVC, leather or faux leather covers (e.g. Smooth series) or the Weeks Sneaker – the cover won't fit properly.
For Planner Enthusiasts
Screen printing (serigraphy) is a printing technique in which ink is pressed through a fine-mesh fabric directly onto the surface material – layer by layer, colour by colour. The result is opaque, slightly raised to the touch and colour-fast even on transparent substrates like PVC. The four colours of the Dotted Plaid pattern don't overlap; instead they sit as separate halftone dots side by side – the check effect is created purely through arrangement and spacing, not through cross-hatching. When you combine the cover with a coloured Weeks, you can observe how the printed dots interact with the cover tone: green on slate blue creates a different depth than green on champagne.
