Hobonichi Writing Pad Akiko Miyakoshi: Sunny Day (A6)
The Hobonichi Writing Pad Akiko Miyakoshi: Sunny Day is a writing pad (Shitajiki) in A6 format, precisely fitted for the Hobonichi Techo Original. On the front, it features a watercolour by children's book author and illustrator Akiko Miyakoshi – a window scene that emerged from a journey through England and continued to grow in her imagination. The reverse side glows in rich yellow, reminiscent of warm sunlight. The material is Yupo, a synthetic paper with a subtly velvety surface.
Features
- Perfectly sized for A6: The writing pad is precisely tailored to the format of the Hobonichi Techo Original, Planner, HON, Day-Free and 5-Year Techo – no overhang, no slipping.
- Protection for Tomoe River paper: The delicate Tomoe River paper picks up impression marks from the reverse side. The writing pad slides between the pages and catches the pen pressure, keeping the following pages clean.
- Stable writing surface: The slightly firm yet flexible Yupo surface prevents ballpoints, fountain pens or fineliners from slipping on the page – a noticeable difference, especially when applying light pressure.
- Today-Tab as bookmark: A small tab in the corner marks the current page in your Techo and replaces the need for a separate bookmark.
- Millimetre ruler: One side is printed with a 5 mm grid and millimetre markings along the edge – a measuring aid always at hand in your Techo.
- Two-sided design: Front features Miyakoshi's atmospheric window landscape in grey and blue tones, reverse in warm sunny yellow – two distinct moods on one pad.
Use & Tips
- Simply slide the writing pad behind the current Techo page – the Today-Tab protrudes at the top and shows today's date.
- If you write in your Techo with a fountain pen and fine nib, you'll particularly appreciate the consistent resistance of the Yupo surface: the nib glides smoothly without scratching or slipping.
- When applying firmer pressure – such as with a ballpoint or mechanical pencil – it's advisable to position the pad one or two pages behind the writing page to completely avoid embossing marks.
- The yellow reverse side can be flipped up according to your mood – a small detail that changes the character of your Techo.
- To complement the writing pad: Hobonichi offers Techo covers and accessories in the same Miyakoshi design for a cohesive overall look.
For Hobonichi Enthusiasts
Yupo is not ordinary paper, but a fully synthetic support material made from polypropylene. The surface is water-resistant, dimensionally stable and doesn't absorb moisture – which means the pad remains shape-stable even after extended use and won't warp. Akiko Miyakoshi works with ink and watercolour; her works are published as children's books in Japan and are known for their muted, almost cinematic colour palette. The "Sunny Day" design came about as an imaginative extension of an actual window scene from the United Kingdom – Miyakoshi painted what might be beyond the glass.
