Hobonichi Stencil Moomin

The Hobonichi Moomin stencil brings Moomintroll, Little My, Sniff and their friends directly into your Techo. Made from transparent acrylic resin, it lies flat and precise on every page – the die-cut motifs can be neatly traced with pen or liner. Whoever wants to design their planner with recognisable character silhouettes and motifs from Moominvalley needs no drawing skills, only a steady hand and a feel for line work.

Features

• Moomin characters as stencil shapes: Moomintroll in various moods (smiling, angry and more), Little My, Sniff, Moominpappa's hat and the Moomin house – all included as cut-outs for tracing. Stroke widths up to 0.5 mm nib widths fit through the apertures.
• Integrated ruler up to 10 cm: The edge of the stencil is calibrated as a measuring scale – practical for page grids, headers and column widths in everyday Techo use.
• Card format, 0.5 mm thin: At 120 × 65 × 0.5 mm, the stencil glides effortlessly into the inside pocket of a Techo cover and adds no bulk to the cover.
• Acrylic resin, smooth edges: The clear material shows the position of the motifs on the paper through the stencil – precise placement without guesswork. The cut edges are cleanly machined and leave no colour fraying even with fine fineliner strokes.
• Lightweight, only approx. 5.5 g: Barely noticeable in pocket weight, the stencil can be carried permanently in your planner.

Use & Tips

• Planner decoration: Use motifs as recurring symbols – Moomintroll for personal entries, Moominpappa's hat for special occasions, the Moomin house as a week header.
• Pay attention to stroke width: Fine liners (0.3–0.5 mm) and gel pens with similar stroke widths provide sharp contours within the apertures; wider tips can fray at the stencil edges.
• Make use of the ruler function: The 10 cm scale helps align tables, columns and dividing lines on the narrow Techo pages in A6 format.
• Combination with other Moomin accessories: The stencil works well with matching stamps, sticky notes and pencil plates from the Hobonichi Moomin collection – creating a unified design across multiple pages.
• Not just for Hobonichi: The card dimensions also fit the card slots of other planner covers and journal covers in credit card format.

For Planner Enthusiasts

The stencil comes from the tradition of technical drawing templates (Japanese: テンプレート), originally developed for uniform symbols in construction drawings – Hobonichi has adapted this principle for everyday planner sketching. The transparent acrylic with machined apertures allows motifs to be applied reproducibly in consistent sizes without stamps, adhesive or digital tools. Especially on ink-resistant, smooth paper (such as Tomoe River), water-based liners produce sharp lines without capillary action at the stencil edges.
