Hobonichi Desk Pad Moomin: Jungle Game (A5)

The Hobonichi Writing Pad Moomin: Jungle Game (A5) is a pencil board made from synthetic Yupo paper, precisely sized for the Hobonichi Techo Cousin in A5 format. The front features a scene from the novel "Finn Family Moomintroll": Moomintroll and his friends playing in the jungle that has grown around the Moominhouse through the magic hat. On the reverse, Moominmamma wakes up and finds her room filled with tiny white blossoms.

• Yupo surface as a smooth writing pad: The smooth, slightly springy synthetic paper allows fountain pens, fine-tip pens and pencils to glide without resistance. Writing pressure marks don't transfer to the pages below in the Techo – particularly important with the thin Tomoe River Paper.
• "Today" tab as bookmark: The die-cut tab at the corner marks the current page in the calendar and replaces a separate bookmark.

Use & Tips

• Fountain pen on Tomoe River Paper: If you write with wet inks or broad nibs, place the pad under the current page. The slightly firm Yupo material provides stability for the thin paper and prevents ink bleeding through.
• Pencil and mechanical pencil: The even surface of the Yupo pad produces consistent writing without paper texture or irregularities from the Techo binding.
• Ink and moisture: Yupo is water-repellent – drops on the pad can be easily dabbed off without the pad becoming soggy or warping.
• Switching sides: The pad can be flipped between front and back depending on which Moomin design suits your mood or whether you need the millimetre scale.
• Using as a bookmark: The "Today" tab shows the current calendar page as soon as you open the journal – particularly handy with the dense, thin pages of the Cousin.

Yupo is a carrier-free synthetic paper made from polypropylene – dimensionally stable, tear-resistant and non-hygroscopic. Unlike cardboard or bristolboard, Yupo doesn't warp in moisture, which makes a noticeable difference when working with wet fountain pen inks: the pad stays flat even if ink drips onto its surface. The 0.4 mm thickness is deliberately chosen: thin enough to add minimal bulk to your closed Cousin, yet sturdy enough to provide proper support for Tomoe River pages.
