Hobonichi Planner 2027 HON Slash - Navy (A5, eng.)
The Hobonichi Techo HON Slash (Navy) for 2027 is a bound annual planner in A5 format with an integrated hardcover – no separate slipcase required. "HON" means "book" in Japanese, and that's exactly how it feels in your hand: compact, book-like, always within reach. The interior matches the Hobonichi Techo Cousin A5 and is printed entirely in English.
Features
- Slash Cover Design (Navy): The deep navy blue of the fabric binding appears almost black in direct light. The diagonal slash is foil-stamped in gold – the motif is inspired by the slash mark used when writing dates (e.g. 01/01/2027). Gold foil stamping also appears on the spine: the year 2027 and HON logo for easy identification on the shelf.
- Matte Fabric Binding: The woven cover surface feels velvety-matte, lies cool and comfortable in the hand, and resists dirt, abrasion and everyday wear.
- Thread Binding, Opens Flat to 180°: The binding allows complete opening without resistance – both pages of a spread lie evenly flat on the table. No need to hold it open.
- Tomoe River Paper: Gossamer-thin, lightweight yet tear-resistant paper with a smooth surface. Ink dries evenly, colours appear vibrant and clear. Fountain pens, fine-tip pens and gel pens flow beautifully across it; bleed-through resistance is excellent.
- One Day, One Page: Daily planning area with a full page per day, 1 January to 31 December 2027. The 3.7 mm dot grid is printed in light grey and barely interferes with the readability of your own notes.
- Weekly Overview on Spreads: Two-page layout per week with integrated daily time planner – practical for appointments that run alongside the daily page.
- Year and Month Overviews: Annual index and monthly calendars from December 2026 to March 2028, each as a clear spread.
- Two Ribbon Bookmarks: One ribbon in navy, one in beige – for two places you want to access quickly, e.g. current day and weekly page.
Use & Tips
- Fountain Pens on Tomoe River: The paper is renowned for its ink flow. Fountain pen inks with long drying times (e.g. highly shimmering or chromatic inks) can feather on Tomoe River – finer nibs (EF, F) and medium nibs (M) generally produce cleaner lines than broad nibs or stub nibs. If you write a lot with ink: fill one page, let it dry, then proceed to the opposite page.
- Fast-Drying Gel Pen Refills work well on the thin pages if minimal pressure is desired. Oil-based ballpoint refills also glide cleanly across the smooth paper.
- Daily Pages as a Sketchbook: The generous A5 format allows for drawings, mind maps, and glued-in tickets or receipts alongside your daily journalling.
- Bonus Pages 2027 at the Back: The HON always includes supplementary editorial pages – year in review, focus tools, sleep log. These pages also work as a foundation for personal annual reviews.
- Shelf Storage: The gold foil stamping on the spine (year + HON logo) makes it easy to identify past editions on your shelf – the HON fits book-like into any bookcase.
For Planner Enthusiasts
The Tomoe River Paper – since the 2024 generation update known as "Tomoe River S" – has more uniform fibre alignment than its predecessor and thus an even smoother writing surface with improved bleed-through resistance. Those working with chromatic or shimmering inks that quickly feather or bead on regular paper benefit from Tomoe River S's true-to-ink colour reproduction with deep shading behaviour – provided the ink is dry before the page is turned. The 3.7 mm dot grid of the daily pages is deliberately smaller than the standard 5 mm grid and suits compact, structured handwriting. Cursive scripts in medium nib size fill one grid line evenly; those writing in capitals or with broad nibs typically use two grid lines per text line.
