The Hobonichi Techo Weeks 2027 from the Paper Series "Black Argyle" combines the tried-and-tested weekly planner layout with a cover crafted from textured specialist paper in deep black, embossed with an argyle diamond pattern. The cover paper comes from Takeo, a Japanese design paper specialist – depending on the light, the pattern emerges either subtly or three-dimensionally from the surface. Inside, the planner features gossamer-thin Tomoe River paper that, despite its minimal weight, is fountain pen-proof and remarkably lightweight.

Features

  • Cover in Takeo design paper with embossed argyle pattern: The relief is created by embossing in a grid-paper style. Despite the texture, the surface feels smooth and cool to the touch – the pattern is tactilely perceptible without being rough.
  • Tomoe River paper (52 g/m²) inside: Extraordinarily thin yet tear-resistant paper with a smooth, subtly silken surface. Fountain pen ink flows evenly without soaking in; show-through is barely visible with normal writing instruments.
  • Weekly overview on the left, grid notebook on the right: The left-hand spread displays seven days in horizontal rows; the right features a completely blank grid page (3.55 mm grid) for notes, sketches or lists – both sides at a glance.
  • Compact wallet format: The slender, portrait-oriented design fits into any jacket pocket or handbag and lies flat – ideal for those who carry their planner everywhere.
  • Two ribbon bookmarks: Allow you to mark both the current week and a frequently referenced page – such as the monthly overview – simultaneously.
  • Integrated clear pocket: A self-adhesive clear pocket is included for loose notes, business cards or sticker sheets – stick it to either the front or back inside cover as you prefer.
  • English-language edition: Weekdays, dates, quotations and all supplementary pages at the back are in English; the layout is identical to the Japanese edition.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain pens and gel pens: Tomoe River paper displays a pronounced sheen effect with fountain pens – inks with strong shading or shimmer particularly shine. Fine to medium nibs work best for daily use; quick-drying gel refills are a waterproof alternative for left-handers.
  • Combine weekly goals with daily blocks: The left weekly page suits appointments and daily to-dos; the right grid page works as a cohesive area for weekly reviews, habit tracking or mind maps.
  • Monthly calendar for forward planning: The monthly calendar at the start of each month shows weeks at a glance with markings for morning, afternoon and evening – useful for deadlines and recurring appointments.
  • Stickers and washi tape: The smooth paper surface accepts washi tape cleanly; stickers can be attached and removed without residue, provided they haven't adhered too long.
  • Prefer fine pens: Fineliners from 0.3 mm, pencils and thin ballpoint refills make optimal use of the 3.55 mm grid without overloading the lines.

For Paper Enthusiasts

The Tomoe River paper in the Weeks weighs just 52 g/m² – significantly below the 80–90 g/m² of classic notebook paper – yet delivers a writing experience that fountain pen users find surprising: the surface is so non-absorbent that ink remains wet longer and shading effects develop more prominently than on calendered standard paper. If you write with very wet fountain pens or broad nibs, wait a moment after writing before turning the page. Alcohol markers and solvent-based inks are not recommended, as they stress the thin paper more. The Takeo design paper cover is structurally more stable than a pure softcover but softer than a classic hardcover binding – it yields slightly when gripped and develops a pleasant patina over time.
