Hobonichi Weeks Planner 2027 White Line: Ivory (engl.)
The Hobonichi Pocket Planner Weeks White Line: Ivory is a slim weekly planner in long letter format – just wide enough for a full week column, narrow enough for a jacket pocket. The softcover made of slightly textured PVC in warm ivory tone features a single white vertical stripe as its only graphic element: understated, office-appropriate, yet not expressionless. Inside, the Weeks uses Tomoe River paper – feather-light, ink-proof, designed for planners. The text is in English.
Special Features
- Ivory softcover with white vertical stripe: The slightly textured PVC feels pleasant in your hand, can be folded and bent without breaking – ideal for daily use on the go. The characteristic white stripe is the signature of the White Line series and remains the same calm signal year after year.
- Tomoe River paper – ink-proof and feather-light: The paper is specially developed for planners: extremely thin, yet tear-resistant, and takes ink without bleed-through. Fountain pen ink, fineliners, and gel pens dry in a controlled manner; brilliant inks show their full color on the smooth surface. Not archival quality.
- 3.55 mm dot grid: The grid lines are printed as fine dashed lines – less dominant than solid lines, but precise enough for clean columns, small sketches, or symbols. The grid runs through both the weekly overview and memo area equally.
- Weekly layout: left appointment structure, right free memo block: The left page shows all seven days (Monday–Sunday) as horizontal rows; the right page is completely free grid paper – for notes, lists, sketches, or whatever belongs in the week.
- Monthly overviews and yearly calendar: Generous monthly pages with double-page layout facilitate advance planning; a yearly overview for multiple calendar years makes seasonal planning possible at a glance.
- 75 memo block pages in the back section (English edition): Significantly more than in the Japanese edition – for extensive free notes, journaling, or sketches away from the weekly grid.
- Thread binding (stitch-binding): The binding keeps the block permanently together and is designed for daily use over a full year. Pages stay flat with light hand pressure.
- Two ribbons and adhesive corner pouch: Two ribbons mark week and month simultaneously; the transparent, self-adhesive corner pouch can be attached to a favorite page or the cover.
Application & Tips
- Fountain pens and Tomoe River paper: The smooth, dense surface of Tomoe River paper is well-known for excellent compatibility with fountain pens – ink flows evenly, nib sizes from EF to broad nibs remain sharp. Inks with strong shading or shimmer effects are particularly striking. Pay attention to drying times: fountain pen inks take slightly longer on Tomoe River; placing blotting paper between pages prevents smudging.
- Quick-drying refills for on the go: If you carry the Weeks daily in your backpack or wallet and write a lot while traveling, it's best to use a quick-drying gel refill or an oil-based ballpoint refill – this keeps the opposite page clean.
- Use the right memo block page flexibly: The free grid page on the right is suitable for habit tracking (custom columns in the 3.55 mm grid are quickly drawn), for weekly budget notes, or as a briefing area before meetings – directly next to the week's appointment schedule.
- Combine covers: The softcover fits into optional Weeks protective cases from Hobonichi that bring additional card pockets or zip-lock pouches – for those who want to combine planner and wallet.
- Annual quote pages as reflection anchors: Each weekly double-page spread contains a quote from the Japanese Hobonichi web magazine – in the English edition in English. Many users use it as a weekly thought prompt or journaling starter.
For Planner Enthusiasts
Tomoe River paper was developed for the Hobonichi Techo and has been a standard part of the Weeks line for over 20 years. The special feature lies in the combination: the paper is unusually thin – 240 pages at only 10 mm spine width – and yet resistant to bleed-through, which is relevant for fountain pen inks and pigment inks with high color density. The Weeks' 3.55 mm grid is slightly finer than the 3.7 mm grid of the larger Techo formats and thus allows denser handwriting or smaller symbols on the narrower page format. The dashed grid lines (instead of solid lines) are a deliberate design choice by Hobonichi: they disturb the script less and are hardly visible in scans or photos – relevant for those who digitize pages.
