Hobonichi Pocket Planner 2027 Weeks White Line: Black (engl.)
The Hobonichi Techo Weeks White Line: Black is a slim weekly planner in 95 × 186 × 11 mm format – narrow enough for a jacket pocket, with a side surface nearly matching the A6 original. The cover is made from slightly textured PVC in matte black and features a characteristic white vertical stripe on the front, sitting comfortably soft in the hand. Inside, the planner uses Tomoe River S paper (52 g/m²) – gossamer-thin, cream-white and remarkably smooth. The English-language edition starts in January 2027.
Features
- PVC softcover, lightly textured: The cover is flexible and yields gently when writing in hand without losing grip. Unlike stiff cardboard, it shapes itself when held – ideal for on-the-go use without a firm writing surface.
- Tomoe River S paper, 52 g/m²: Despite its thinness, the paper shows minimal show-through and holds ink well on the surface. The smooth finish lets nibs glide freely; ink drawings and watercolours respond with a subtle sheen. Since 2025, all Hobonichi planners use exclusively Tomoe River S from Sanzen.
- 3.55 mm grid from dashed lines: Grid lines are printed as fine dashes, not solid lines – this significantly reduces visual clutter on fully written pages. The grid serves as a discreet structural aid for even handwriting, sketches and tabular entries.
- Weekly layout: daily lines on the left, free grid paper on the right: The left page lists Monday through Sunday with daily lines. The right page is free grid paper – for notes, sketches, habit trackers or anything that doesn't need a fixed space.
- 73 pages of memo grid paper: At the end of the book, 73 additional pages of grid paper in the same 3.55 mm grid – for projects, lists or free notes independent of the weekly flow.
- Moon phases and weekly quotes: Each weekly page shows the moon phase for that day plus an English-language quote at the bottom margin.
- Two page ribbons: Allow marking two places simultaneously – such as the current week and monthly overview.
- Adhesive corner pocket (clear envelope): Included and can be glued inside on the endpaper to keep notes, receipts or sticker sheets at hand.
- White Line: original design since 2011: The white vertical stripe on black is the original design of the Weeks line – unchanged in the range since the first edition in 2011.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pens and Tomoe River S: The paper flows beautifully under soft nibs – including stub nibs. Because the surface is extremely smooth, aqueous ink takes longer to dry. When writing with wet fountain pens, briefly lay blotting paper between pages when turning or work with quick-drying inks. The paper is not archival.
- Gel pens and mechanical pencils: Dry gel refills and fine mechanical pencils (0.3–0.5 mm) work with particular precision on the 3.55 mm grid – the small line spacing is better utilised with finer tips than broad ballpoint refills.
- No separate cover required: The White Line is designed as a standalone planner. The PVC cover provides protection without additional covering; those wanting extra protection can choose a fabric cover or pouch.
- Hold the book gently: The softcover doesn't lie completely flat when opened. Fix lightly with one hand – this isn't a fault but intentional by the flexible binding design.
- Stickers and washi tape: The smooth PVC surface takes washi tape and stickers well and allows them to be removed cleanly. This makes the cover a surface for personalisation.
- Monthly overview with 3.4 mm grid: The monthly spreads use a slightly smaller grid (3.4 mm) than the weekly pages – printed in muted grey and red for good readability with dense entries.
For Planner Enthusiasts
Tomoe River S paper (manufacturer: Sanzen) has been used in all Hobonichi planners since 2025. At 52 g/m², it falls into the very thin planner paper category – for the Weeks, this means 240 pages in just 11 mm spine depth. The dashed grid lines are engineered so that intersection points appear as uniform, identical crosses – creating a calmer handwriting appearance than irregularly calibrated line grids. The Yearly Index (January–December 2027) is laid out on a double spread; the top seven lines of each month column remain free for your own categories. The serial number on the inside back cover makes each copy individually identifiable.
