MD Product Notebook squared (A7)
The MD Notebook (A7) by MD Product is a back-pocket notebook that is consistently reduced to its essence: the paper. On 176 pages of acid-free MD Paper with 80 g/m² lies a 5-mm grid pattern – cream-white, with delicate blue lines that remain in the background while writing and sketching. The thread-bound binding opens the book completely flat from the first to the last page, without a ridge in the middle. No outer cover, no laminate – the surface of glassine paper protects the book until first use and then reveals the simple, slightly textured book cover.
Special Features
- MD Paper, 80 g/m²: The in-house paper was specially developed for fountain pens – the cream-white surface is smooth enough for effortless pen glide, but absorbs ink quickly and reliably, without flaking, smudging, or bleeding through to the back. Gel pens, fine-liners, and pencils also run precisely on this surface.
- 5-mm grid pattern with markings: The grid division is based on the Japanese Genkō-Yōshi principle – every 5 and 10 squares are highlighted by subtle markings, which makes counting characters, aligning columns, or creating mini-layouts easier. The light blue line color recedes optically in the text.
- Thread-bound binding, lying flat at 180°: Multiple layers are folded together into signatures and bound with thread. The result: the open book lies flat on the table or in your hand without springy resistance – from page 1 to page 176.
- Exposed muslin spine: Without a glued-on board cover, the gauze strip on the book spine is visible – a crafted detail that shows how the book is held together.
- A7 format: At 105 × 74 × 10 mm, the notebook fits flat in any trouser or jacket pocket. The format corresponds to a Japanese miniature book pocket format.
- Acid-free: MD Paper does not yellow or become brittle – notes and sketches remain permanently stable.
Application & Tips
- Fountain pens: The MD Paper tolerates even wet inks and broad nibs. When writing with a broad nib, you see line widths and ink gradations clearly and without fraying. Fast-drying ink varieties further reduce the short drying time.
- Quick notes on the go: The A7 format is small enough for shirt or jacket pocket. The ribbon bookmark immediately marks the current page – no flipping.
- Layouts and structuring: The 5-mm grid is suitable for calendar grids, habit trackers, miniature maps, or table structures where lined paper provides insufficient guidance.
- Sketches and quick diagrams: The regular grid spacing allows to-scale sketching without a ruler – ideal for floor plans, small-format circuit diagrams, or UI wireframes on paper.
- Cover: For continuous use, there are matching MD notebook covers in the LUIBAN range – made of paper, leather, or transparent material, each in A7 format.
For Paper Enthusiasts
MD Paper originated in the 1960s and has been continuously developed since then. The surface is tested with various writing instruments: ink behavior, drying time, pen glide, and transparency are individually evaluated. The result is a paper that at 80 g/m² provides sufficient opacity for double-sided writing while remaining light enough to keep the A7 book at approximately 65 g total weight. The acid-free material makes the pages permanently stable – no yellowing, no brittleness over the years.
